Comets Lock Up 5th Straight 20-Win Season With Big Win Over UMHB

SENIOR AMBER BROWN TIED A SCHOOL RECORD WITH 11 ASSISTS AGAINST UMHB.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (02.19.15) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team used a 19-0 run in the first half to pull away early for a 93-68 home win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play Thursday night.
 
With the win, the Comets (now 20-4, 16-3 ASC) secured their fifth straight 20-win season and locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's ASC Tournament in Tyler. UTD will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon as the Comets host Concordia Texas for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
 
Madi Hess led five Comets in double figures with 16 points, adding six assists and five steals as UTD picked off 11 Cru passes. Amber Brown added 15 points along with a school-record tying 11 assists. Emily Price had 14 points while Micaela Gonzalez had 12 points and Iemah Wallace-Perry had 10 points.
 
As a team, UTD dished out a season-high 24 assists in scoring the season-high 93 points. The Comets nailed 13-of-28 three-pointers on the way to the win.
 
After an early 5-5 tie at the 16:35 mark of the first half, the Comet offense took off while the Cru went cold. Just over six minutes later, UTD had a commanding 24-5 lead and UMHB was forced to play catchup the rest of the way.
 
The Cru rallied briefly to cut the lead down to 30-16 at 6:13, but the Comets answered with seven straight points – capped by a Wallace-Perry three-pointer - and had their biggest lead of the first half (37-16) at 4:27.
 
UMHB was able to get the Comets' 50-30 halftime lead under 20 points with a quick basket to open the second half, but UTD answered with a 5-0 run on a pair of Brown free throws and a Price three to push the lead to 55-32 at 16:55. The Cru never got closer than 21 the rest of the way.
 
UMHB was within 21 points (65-44) with still 11:01 to play, but Hess answered with a pair of threes in a 12-5 run and UTD pushed the lead back to 28 points (77-49) with 8:56 remaining. With 4:13 remaining, UTD stretched the lead out to 89-60 for its biggest lead of the night.
