RICHARDSON, TX (02.03.18) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon with an 8-1 non-conference home win over Concordia Texas.
The Comets (1-0) opened the duel with a clean 3-0 sweep of doubles, giving up just four games combined in three matches, and followed with a 5-1 mark in the six singles contests.
Top-flighted and No. 29-ranked
Sumvruta Iyengar cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, win over CTX's Justus Aarhus, while No. 39-ranked
Kathy Joseph easily handled Hayley Anderson, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. The duo earlier teamed up for a quick 8-0 win over Anderson/Leyla Martinez in No.1 doubles.
In other doubles action,
Sophie Farmer and
Elizabeth Labra downed CTX's Alexis Popovish/Camille Kempf, 8-2, at No. 2, while
Svaksha Iyengar and
Vivian Sepulveda dispatched Aarhus/Lauren Fox, 8-2, at No. 3.
Farmer blanked Kempf, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles,
Svaksha Iyengar handled Popovich, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 4, and Labra defeated Alejandra Rueda, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5.
The Comets return to action Sunday, Feb. 18, when they host Whitworth in another non-conference match. Match time is 12 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts.
