The Comets posted a 12-4 overall record in 2021 and rolled through the ASC East schedule with a perfect 4-0 mark en route to the squad's third consecutive division crown. UTD has already been tabbed the favorite for another division title this spring, according to the league's preseason poll last month.
UTD returns five players from last year's team that made its third-ever trip to the national tournament, including All-American
Samantha Wong. Wong and then partner
Kathy Joseph advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA D-III Doubles Championship this past spring. Wong, along with
Rebecca Jackson,
Suzuka Nishino and
Saumya Vedula were all All-ASC picks for the Comets in 2021. Vedula was tabbed the ASC East's Freshman of the Year.
Saturday's contest with Austin College will be the first of five consecutive non-conference matches before the Comets open ASC East play on Mar. 25 at East Texas Baptist. UTD will then have home league matches with LeTourneau (Apr. 2) and Belhaven (Apr. 9) before closing divisional play at Ozarks (Apr. 15). The ASC Tournament will be held Apr. 28-30 at the East Division champion.
