Eight Comets Selected to All-Conference Women's Tennis Teams

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team had eight student-athletes recognized on the 2024 All-American Southwest Conference teams. The Comets also took home three individual awards.

Riya Matharoo, from Dubai, from Dubai earned All-ASC, East Division First Team and East Division Freshman of the Year honors. She was a perfect 4-0 in conference and a team leading 10-4 overall in singles while playing number one and two.

Freshman Reika Nagai, of Frisco, Texas, was also on the All-ASC and East Division First Teams. She was 4-0 in conference and 9-4 overall playing at two, three and four.

Senior Saumya Vedula, from McKinney, Texas, earned All-ASC honors for the fourth time of her career. She was also an All-ASC East First Team selection, going 7-4 overall and 3-0 in conference, playing mainly in the fourth flight.

Juniors Megan Zeng and Elyssa Ducret were All-ASC and East Divsion First Team picks in both singles and doubles. Zeng, of Austin, Texas, was 8-4 overall and 3-0 in league play. Ducret, from Plano, Texas, went 9-2 and 2-0 within the ASC East. As a team,  they were 3-0 in conference and 10-4 overall. Both players received All-ASC honors for the third consecutive season.

Junior Jhastine Red Ballado, from Munoz, Philippines, was the East Division Newcomer of the Year. She and freshman Elsha Valluru, of Highland Village, Texas, were named All-ASC and East Division First Team for going 9-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. 

Senior Rebecca Jackson was selected to the All-ASC East Division Second Team. The Austin, Texas native went 1-1 in conference play and teamed with Vedula to go 8-4 overall. It is the fourth East Division honors of Jackson's career.

Head coach Bryan Whitt was named the ASC East Coach of the Year, the seventh award in his career. He guided the Comets to a 10-5 record and perfect 4-0 conference mark. The Comets won their fifth consecutive ASC title and sixth overall in Whitt's career. 

UTD will find out where and when they will play in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Monday, May 6.
