RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas women's tennis team will start the spring portion of the schedule when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State at the UTD Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. Friday.
The Comets, under 21st-year head coach
Bryan Whitt, return four all-conference players after going 11-6 last year, winning the American Southwest Conference title and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Senior
Megan Zeng is a three-time All-ASC selection and went 8-4 between number three, four and five singles last year. She was also 11-5 in doubles. Senior
Jhastine Red Ballado teamed with sophomore
Elsha Valluru to go 10-4 in doubles in 2024. Sophomore
Reika Nagai was 9-4 overall while mainly play at three singles.
Joining the Comets for 2025 are sophomores
Kendall Curley and
Chloe O'Connor.
UTD, in its first season transitioning to NCAA Division II, will still be associated with the ASC in 2024-25. They will compete against opponents Division I, II and II as well as NAIA and exhibitions from NJCAA. They will also face the remaining five American Southwest Conference members. The Comets are not eligible for the ASC title, postseason play or all-conference awards but will be eligible for Player of the Week and academic honors.
The Comets will also host St. Thomas (Texas) on February 16, Hardin-Simmons on February 14 and March 8, Mary Hardin-Baylor on April 5, Howard Payne on April 12 and Utah Tech on April 15.. Road matches include - Texas Wesleyan (Feb. 22), East Texas Baptist (Feb. 28) and LeTourneau (Mar. 28). UTD will also play three Division II in March - Southwest Baptist in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 10, at Eckerd on March 18 and at #20 Tampa on March 19.
