Undefeated Men's Team Racks Up 8th Straight Win, Runs Past SWAGU 79-53

Comets Dominate Boards, Defensive End To Handle Lions

JORDAN EPPINK LED UTD WITH 15 POINTS AND SIX REBOUNDS.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX - The UT Dallas men's basketball team reeled off its 8th win in a row to open the 2008-09 season Tuesday night with another workmanlike, 79-53 victory over Southwest Assemblies of God University.

The Comets (8-0) ran an efficient offensive attack, but it was what UTD did at the defensive end of the floor and on the boards that solidified the win. The Comets held their seventh opponent in eight games to less than 40 percent shooting, stopping the Lions on 36 of 56 shots (.35.7%). UTD also out-hustled a tall and athletic SWAGU inside game for a 48-29 advantage in rebounding. The Comets used 19 rebounds to get 19 second-chance points in the game.

After falling behind early 9-6, UTD ran off seven unanswered points to begin building a lead at 13-9 and then has a 12-0 run to expand the advantage to 26-11 with 9:22 left in the first half. At intermission, the Comets were up by 19 at 40-21. UTD then stretched the lead in the second half and didn't let the Lions any closer than 18 points (59-41 with 10:29 remaining).

Jordan Eppink led five Comets in double figures with 15 points. He also had six rebounds and was creded four assists. Scott Rodgers had 13 off the bench while Ernie Lowery pitched in 12 along with 11 from Brandon Greene. Guard Temaine Wright had 10 points, but also contributed nine rebounds.

The Comets are off the rest of the week for final exams, then finish up their pre-holiday schedule with a road game at Austin College Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6 pm.
