IRVING, TX (02.28.09) – On a cold and breezy day with the wind chill dropping into the 20s, the UT Dallas softball team heated up after a slow start to earn a split at the University of Dallas Spring Kickoff Tournament. After falling 9-4 to the tournament hosts, the Comets took care of Cornell College (IA), 7-2 in the nightcap.

Adrienne Rathy from Sherman went 3-for-6 with a double and a triple. Freshman first baseman
Caysie Norum was 2-for-3 in the win over Cornell with UTD's first home run of the season, and drove in three runs on the day.

Angela Neff from Waco pitched two complete games for the Comets, recording 12 strikeouts in the two games.

The Comets jumped out to a 2-run lead in their first at-bat of the season and had a chance to add to a lead when they loaded the bases in the 3rd with no outs. But the Crusaders stopped UTD with three straight strikeouts, then erupted for four runs in the bottom of the inning off four hits and a pair of Comet errors to move ahead to stay. The Comets managed just four hits and struck out 12 times against the winning UD pitcher Hoelker.

(who was 2-for-2) and Rathy hit back-to-back triples to drive in three runs. Norum then led off the 4th with a solo home run. The Comets added three more in the 6th on a three-hit attack which included an RBI double from second baseman
