CLAREMONT, CA (03.14.13) - The UT Dallas women's tennis team kicked off its Spring Break trip to California with a 7-2 loss at No. 9-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Thursday night.

The Comets (now 6-2) continue their West Coast swing Friday with a 5 p.m. match at Whittier College Friday at a 1 p.m. match at California Lutheran University Saturday. C-M-S is the top ranked team in the West Region according to the latest ITA rankings, while UTD is #15, Whittier is #17 and CLU is #18.

Junior transfer Casey Johnson and senior Rachel Houston each picked wins in the loss to the Athenas. Johnson earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over C-M-S's Caroline Ward at #2 singles, while Houston outlasted Sarah Kukino, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7, at #3 singles.
